Retaining wall continued...

Today we finished the largest part of the retaining wall. We now only have a short (about 3 metre) section to complete once we've dug and cemented the footings for it. At least the vast majority of the work on the wall is now done.

We have external walls!

Bricklaying underway

The bricklayers have been hard at work. Here also you can see the massive steel beam holding up the garage roof, currently supported by scaffolding until the brickwork is complete.

Maybe it wasn't as complicated as Ikea furniture after all?!

Frames and trusses have arrived!

Today our house arrived on a big truck, well the frames and trusses for it. I hope it is easier to put together than IKEA furniture :)

Retaining wall

Now OUR chance to get our hands dirty came along. Dad and I did the formwork. Then Tim and I poured the footings and then started to build a retaining wall along the northern side of the house.

As you can see, Erina did all the work - the mixing...

I was just responsible for the backfilling...

And the capping. And there you can see our completed wall...well, sort of...that is just the first section next to the garage - about 7.5metres. Now we have to do another 14 metres!
