Exterior drainage

Today they dug up our yard again! This time it was to lay all the storm water piping and connect the house to the sewer mains.

The sewer is a long way down, the pipe in the bottom right of the photo shows the sewer connection at the bottom, and the top of the pipe is normal ground level - it was a big hole in our backyard to do this.

You can see the pile of dirt they made doing it! The pipe you just saw is behind that pile.

Here the plumbing is done, and you can see the big concrete drain pit at the far end of the picture - we have 3 of these in our yard.

Finally, you can see our completed yard - everything back to normal shape again, and now you can finally see the top of our water tank (the tank is 2.5 metre high - most of it is underground as only about 30cm is sticking out) sticking out just above ground level there - the deck will ultimately rest on top of that tank.

Our house is made of foam

Our slab is constructed almost entirely of foam. This is probably to allow the house to float in the case of a significant deluge!

Earth works

They've been hard at work shaping our land for the foundations of the house and beginning to lay out the form work for the slab.

It is amazing how they can compact soil so much that it just stays up in shape like that!
